When Charities Attack

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is in trouble. It seems they have been soliciting donations in Scotland and (get this) they don’t even help animals in Scotland. They only assist animals in England & Wales. The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) has called them on it.

It seems the SSPCA believes that Scottish money should protect Scottish animals and is using shock tactics by way of a slightly disturbing banner to communicate that to all its Scottish donors and supporters. Their catchphrases are “The RSPCA Won’t Save Me” and “Stealing Food From the Mouths”. The SSPCA is incensed because it seems 70% of Scots who participated in their survey believe that the RSPCA dies not “rescue or rehome any animals in Scotland” and are “intentionally adding to the confusion to make money”.

The RSPCA’s response was that they do not actively fundraise in Scotland. Apparently, there is evidence that the RSPCA do advertise in The Scotsman and the Edinburgh Evening News. (my friends and I refer to this kind of creative approach as 'rough tactics')

I just want know two things. Firstly, has it come to this? Are animals not equal? Secondly, do the SSPCA not realise the negative impact this will have on charitable donations as a whole?
