Whew. I'm done with that difficult client. We had a two-day hearing and I'm bracing him and myself for the judgement which won't go in our favour. You know how they say never say never?
Well, I'm saying never.
I got back to the office and realised the attitude in our department was slightly frosty. Even when we've all got a lot of work on, we still find time to share a joke and a laugh. Today, people were staring at their computers like there was no tomorrow. For a split second, I thought we were being filmed / photographed for the firm’s promotional material.
Things got better after a while, but little did I know, that was the calm before the storm. Spoiled was shirking responsibility and bad mouthing people to clients (as usual) Young'un couldn't take anymore of it and took it upon herself to approach Spoiled.Young'un asked: "Why did you tell client X [insert comment making Young’un look bad]?"
Spoiled replied: "Because it was the correct answer to the question I was asked"
Young'un: "But my advice was correct. You could've professionally disagreed with me without badmouthing me"
Spoiled: "Excuse me?"
Young’un: "You heard me. But to summarize - (speaking very slowly) you are such a joke"
Spoiled then tried to say, in a dignified manner I might add, that such language was inappropriate. Everytime she tried to say something, Young'un raised her voice an octave.
It carried on like this until Young'un walked over to the filing cabinet, picked out a bunch of files, slammed them one by one on Spoiled's desk telling her the name of the client and how everyone knew Spoiled had badmouthed colleagues to those clients.
Spoiled went beetroot red.
One of 'em went to the kitchen and the other went to the bathroom. Fiesty, Oblivious and I are left in the room looking at each other with dumb looks on our faces.
Everyone outside our door-ajar, glass-walled office was staring at us. I'm informed they had words earlier in the day and Spoiled had been up to her old tricks. I am also informed that an overzealous colleague filmed the whole thing on a camera phone.
Now, I get where Young'un was coming from, I really do. I also believe Spoiled had such a talk coming to her. But I cannot support Young'un's delivery. That kid knows nothing about office politics. This is how you lose the advantage by ranting and raving. Now you look like the psycho bad guy.
That darn oestrogen.
