Nothing Good Ever Happens After Midnight

I understand why the old folks say this.

I went to see JK last Saturday and now I’m confused. Well, let me give you the full story.

I am helping a friend deal with a very trying time in her life so, over the last three weeks, JK and I haven’t seen each other. JK assured me, no matter what time I got done with my errands, he would come round and visit – all I had to do was call to let him know when that was. My phone’s battery died as I was trying to answer a call from JK and give him an ETA. So, I thought, “let me go and see him because he has been so sweet and understanding”. I get to his (on the other side of London) and, there is another girl there.

Now, I don’t trip. I don’t make a scene because we are grown folk and I understand he has friends. Also, keeping it real, we don’t have a defined relationship so technically he owes me no explanation. JK mentions he left me a voice message cancelling our plans and I inform him that my battery is dead anyway. I’m there from 11:17pm until about 12:45pm. This girl doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, and I’m too tired to try and outlast her.

Today, I listen to my voice messages. I get to the one from JK and he says:

“Hey, it’s me. I think we will have to cancel tonight because my friend is here. [cool so far] and he wants me to go with him to his cousin’s party, so we are stepping out. I hope you managed to get everything done. Speak to you later.”

I’m not mad, I’m just very disappointed that he felt the need to lie. As this is so out of character for him, I sent him a text saying:

Just listened to your voicemail. I’m sorry if I caused you to change your plans on Saturday showing up unannounced.

He texted back saying:

Three days later? Lol. Don’t worry, you didn’t. Was too tired to go out anyways.

No acknowledgment of the implied message. So, I thought – lemme be more direct with his ass, and sent this:

Honestly, I don’t know what to make of it because I got to yours 30mins after you left the msg & you and [insert girl’s name here] didn’t look like you were going anywhere. Just wanted to apologise if u changed plans on my account.

No reply came. I wasn’t expecting one to be honest. He has called since then, acting like nothing went on. He gets a pass just this once.
